Seaview Meadows
The Seaview Meadows project in Saltdean, East Sussex, is an award-winning housing development overlooking the coast. Built on a challenging sloping site with multiple levels, the development required a smart approach to retaining walls for the back gardens and entrance areas. Westridge Construction enlisted our expertise to deliver a hybrid retaining wall system that would be both effective and environmentally conscious.

Reduction in Stone
The solution involved an innovative hybrid retaining wall system, combining precast L-shaped units with a gabion façade. This approach offered substantial environmental benefits, using 80% less stone than traditional gabion baskets, effectively reducing material usage while maintaining structural integrity.
In total, the project utilized 247m² of gabion baskets and 105m of retaining walls, with heights ranging from 1m to 3.75m. This tailored design not only minimised the retaining wall’s footprint but also provided a sustainable solution that blends naturally with the surroundings, offering both durability and aesthetic appeal.
The reduced stone content and compact footprint underscore the project’s commitment to sustainability, while the gabion façade adds a natural touch that complements the coastal environment, seamlessly integrating the development into its unique setting.
