preston bus station.
precast concrete crash barriers
the project.
When we were asked by Lancashire County Council to design and install new crash barriers for their £23 million redevelopments of the Grade II listed Preston Bus Station, we jumped at the chance.
There were two key challenges in this project. The first was that the new crash barriers had to be able to take the vehicle impact from the buses if needed and be aesthetically pleasing.
The second was that the installation and construction had to be quick and easy, so the bus station could still be in use while the install took place.

Our barrier design reduced the overall unit weight by 30%, resulting in a significant saving in the cost of the barriers and transport to site.
The new system also allowed the work to be completed in three time-critical phases and meant the bus station could remain open throughout.

Using our vehicle-mounted crane for the installation meant we could off-load and position the 6T barrier units in one movement, making this a speedy and safe way to handle the precast units.
