Phased precast installation for a 42,000 sq ft retail development

Working alongside Wilten Construction, we delivered the precast package for the new 42,000-square-foot Home Bargains unit at Drovers Retail Park in Kent.
The brief seemed simple: create level build platforms, maximise parking, and deliver a thermally efficient façade. We also needed to keep the schedule tight and make sure follow-on trades could start work without delay.
In practice, this required phased installation, careful coordination, and reliable systems from the start.

Levelling the site without slowing the programme
The project needed major level changes to create usable retail and parking space. We installed a 3-metre-high CBS precast retaining wall and a secondary wall to provide additional parking and a dedicated cycle area.
Both walls were finished with StoneBox cages, creating a traditional gabion retaining wall look, without the extra footprint, labour, or build-up of standalone baskets.

Precast façade and phased installation
The 42,000 sq ft retail unit was formed using thermally efficient, insulated ProWall precast panels, installed in phases to keep the wider programme moving.
Compared to in-situ walling or standalone gabions, the hybrid precast and StoneBox system enabled faster installation, slimmer walls, and an 80% reduction in stone and wall thickness. With no curing delays and immediate structural readiness, follow-on trades could stay on schedule without disruption.
The result was an EPC A+ rated development delivered efficiently, using less material, less handling, and a clean architectural finish.
