Deal Farm Biogas Plant

Efficient, durable wall solutions for sustainable biogas production.

Retaining walls for silage clamps and digestate containment

Deal Farm Biogas Plant

At the Deal Farm Biogas Plant, the challenge was to support a large-scale agricultural anaerobic digestion facility with resilient and durable retaining walls for silage clamps and digestate containment. We were tasked with designing, supplying, and installing a modular precast wall system that could withstand the rigorous demands of biogas production.

For the containment around the digestate tanks, we installed 326m of 2.25m high modular retaining walls, complete with an internal ramp for easy access. Additionally, we constructed three 70m long open-ended silage clamps using 140m of AGRI L-shaped walls and 140m of AGRI T-shaped walls, each standing 3m high, to maximise storage efficiency and withstand heavy silage loads.

Constructing storage and containment structures for a biogas plant presents unique challenges, particularly given the corrosive environment associated with digestate and silage. Our modular precast walls offered a resilient and adaptable solution that could withstand these conditions, with the added benefit of quick installation and minimal on-site adjustments. The use of modular units accelerated the installation process and ensured that the walls could be easily adapted in the future, should Deal Farm’s storage requirements evolve over time.
